June 4-8, 2019  Historic Chisholm Trail Activities
  • Come along in the footsteps of history with Tom and Pat Seay on the Chisholm Trail in Kansas as they film a four-part series for television
  • Be part of the magic across five days and a 60 mile ride, including a portion of driving cattle on the actual Chisholm Trail
  • Riders are encouraged to wear period dress (mid-1800s) or western clothing

  • Monday (June 3rd: Caldwell) - OPTIONAL
    - Driving a long way? Feel free to check in with Best of America by Horseback
    - Explore the historic town of Caldwell on your own
    - Primitive camping with water available for horses

  • Tuesday (June 4th: Caldwell)
    - Check in with Best of America by Horseback
    - 6:00 pm: Witness an Old West gun fight in the streets, complete with 1800s saloon girls in period costumes, hosted by Historic Society 
    - 6:30 pm: Welcome Dinner at the Caldwell Chamber of Commerce and the Summer County Economic Development Board, hosted by the City of Caldwell, including guest speakers and Chisholm Trail historians
    - Gather 'round the campfire to listen to music & share stories with other riders
    - Primitive camping with water available for horses

  • Wednesday (June 5th: Caldwell - Wellington Lake)
    - 9:00 am: Trail Ride begins! Ride through Caldwell
    - Snap a photo under the arch as we leave Caldwell
    - 12 mile ride, with a one hour lunch break, to Wellington Lake, a beautiful location with easy parking in a large flat field
    - Evening: Authentic Chuck Wagon dinner 
    - Gather 'round the campfire to listen to music & share stories with other riders
    - Primitive camping with water available for horses
    - Bathroom & shower house available

  • Thursday (June 6th: Wellington Lake - Mayfield)
    - 5 to 6 mile trail ride to small town of Mayfield
    - Help drive cattle from one ranch to the next along the route, just as they did historically
    - Mayfield site will have parking near firehouse and ball field
    - Evening: Chuck Wagon meal prepared for riders
    - Gather 'round the campfire to listen to music & share stories with other riders
    - Bathrooms available 
    - Replenish your water supply in Mayfield
    - Primitive camping with water available for horses

  • Friday (June 7th: Mayfield - Clearwater)
    - 4 mile ride past the "Hanging Tree" and river to a pasture for lunch
    - 10 mile ride to Clearwater
    - Clearwater is the second largest town on our itinerary; riders can find restaurants, the Clearwater Historical Museum, and other services
    - Evening: Dinner provided with historic speakers
    - Gather 'round the campfire to listen to music & share stories with other riders
    - Primitive camping and parking at the rodeo grounds with water available for horses

  • Saturday (June 8th: Clearwater - Wichita)
    - 12 mile ride into Wichita, the last stop on our trail ride
    - Riders will be escorted into the city by the Wichita Mounted Police
    - Evening: Catered banquet for all riders
    - Musical performance by cowboy singer and friend of BOABH, Del Shields
    - Sit around the campfire for a final farewell
    - Primitive camping with water available for horses at the new Wichita Stockyards/Conference Center

  • Sunday (June 9th: Wichita) - OPTIONAL
    - Take your horse through "Old Cowtown," a reconstructed old western town
    - No extra charge for this optional event

  • Primitive camping only, but trailers are welcome, including transport of riders to move their trailers each day
  • Port-a-potties and water for horses will be available daily at lunch stops and in the evenings
  • Riders are responsible for their own drinking water, breakfasts, and lunches each day.

  • $25 deposit saves your spot on the ride-- balance must be paid in full before the ride
    This is a Speciality Ride & is not eligible for Lifetime Trail Club Member discounts.

  • There are no refunds, but your balance may be transferred to another ride within a one-year period
