My husband, Rick and I are the owners of The Big Elk Lick Horse Camp, a primitive campground located in Benezette, Pennsylvania. Benezette is also known as the elk capital of Pennsylvania, home of the Pennsylvania elk herd. There are many trails to ride, including the Thunder Mountain Equestrian Trail in Elk State Forest. It's been said that you could ride for a week and not ever see the same trail. We offer some electric spots, shower house and sell ice. One main attraction is the elk herd. Riders can witness the elk in their natural habitat: Spring and Summer boasts cows with their newborn calves and the bull elk don their velvet horns. Fall is the magical elk rut where the bull elk fight for their position with the cows and the massive bugling echoes throughout the colorful mountainside.
